A DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

We live an hour and a bit from the mountains. It’s actually a beautiful drive. Before kids we would go quite often. Joe would go almost every weekend in winter because he’s a snowboarder. Since having kids we don’t really get out there. But as I have mentioned in a previous post, we are trying to make more of an effort to get out and see and do more things as a family. So today we decided to have a day in the mountains. We drove to Canmore. We love it there. It’s close to Banff and lake Louise but not as touristy. It has a lot of cafes, restaurants and little shops in the main town centre and lots of walking tracks and activities to do surrounding. We didn’t make any plans on what exactly we would do but that’s actually the best part!

So we got our Starbucks and hit the road! First stop was at Grassi Lakes. We weren’t in our active wear to actually hike so we just walked about 20 minutes on a track. We walked closer to the waterfall to get some photos and let Noah run around and burn off some energy. It was so pretty! But I was way too paranoid about bears so I really just wanted to get the hell out of there and back to the safety of the car. I think I have watched way too many movies that involve wolves and bear attacks. I worry about some unlikely things since becoming a mum! But I’m fairly certain I would still be just as paranoid without kids.

After that we went for a drive up the mountain to look at the views. We took some photos and then back down to the town to have some lunch. We ate at The Range, which is basically a fancy sandwich place, its pretty expensive but was actually really tasty. Noah didn’t want to sit still so we stuffed our faces and washed it down with our beer and cider and we walked some more. It started to rain so we got a coffee from Beamers cafe and headed back home.

All in all it was a really nice day. A trip to the mountains is soul soothing. The fresh air and beauty is so refreshing!
