This post is sponsored by Vitruvi but all opinions are my own
When I was pregnant with Noah, over 4 years ago now (how has it been that long?!) I purchased my first essential oil diffuser and a couple of oil blends and started to diffuse oils in our apartment. I absolutely loved it. It was so relaxing and made me feel like I was doing something nurturing for me and my baby. I did all the research making sure I wasn’t using any oils that aren’t good in pregnancy. Even after Noah was born I would diffuse lavender in hopes that it would help him sleep, or me!
Over time, life, babies, motherhood, busy day-to-day things got in the way and my oil diffusing days fizzled out. However, recently over the last 4-5 months or so I have been making more of an effort for self-care (I have previously touched on self-care here.) So I started diffusing oils again. I find when I am consciously choosing the oils based upon my mood or how I’m feeling or how the kids are, then I feel like I am getting more out of it.
Recently I was sent some products from Vitruvi. If you love essential oils or are curious about them, then keep reading!
Vitruvi – The Company..
Vitruvi is a Vancouver based company that believe in women taking care of themselves so they can take on the world. Which I think is so great. You don’t have to take on the world per say but I certainly know taking care of myself absolutely makes me a better mother and partner.
First off, their packaging is so perfect. I love when a product’s packaging is too good to hide away in a draw or cupboard. The price point for the oils especially, are amazing. Because they are online only, they don’t need markups. I can honestly say I will only be purchasing single note oils from Vitruvi. You cannot beat their quality and prices. Their website has a great blog too where you can find information on essentials oils and health and wellness articles.
How I use them..
Diffusing – One of my favourite scents is Geranium which is a great beauty oil. I have been combining it with sweet orange and together they make such a nice, fresh but light floral scent. It’s My favourite for the bedroom right now. I am also loving spruce and eucalyptus together for that forest/wintery smell for the living room diffuser. And of course good old lavender for the kids rooms at night, mixed with sweet orange, also a beautiful mix.
Roll-Ons – I love roll-ons! They are so great to take on the go with you. The Vitruvi roll-ons I received were awake and still. Awake is very uplifting. I roll it on my collarbone every morning. Still is a but more of a heavier, smoky sort of scent, which is meant to be grounding. I like to apply it on my wrists at night and on the kids feet right before bed. The sleep roll-on would be great for that too!
Beauty – The Vitruvi blog has lots of beauty recipes from scrubs to shower bombs. One that caught my eye was sweet orange and geranium as a great combination for an at home facial steam. Of course I jumped right on that and it was lovely. I think I need to have one weekly! The last few nights I have put a few drops of oil (eucalyptus mostly) in the bottom of the shower, it’s a nice little extra step to take your ordinary shower to the next spa like level.
Cleaning – I like to make my own carpet deodorizer with baking soda and usually a citrus scent. I mix about 10 drops of oil with about a cup of baking soda and put in an old peanut butter jar. I pierce holes in the top and I sprinkle on the carpet before I vacuum. It’s really refreshing and so much better for the family than the chemical laden carpet powders. I usually like to drop some lemon grass in the bottom of the toilet and sinks after I have given them a good scrub too.
That oily life..
I am definitely not an “oily mama” like those essential oil loving woman you’ll see all over instagram proclaim to be. But I am really enjoying incorporating oils into our day-to-day life. Plus the Vitruvi diffuser fits in well with my minimal, light home decor. I could seriously go on with all the positives! I cannot wait to add some more oils to my collection!
