On Sunday we decided somewhat last-minute to go on a day trip out in the mountains, specifically Lake Louise. Joe graciously let Siena and I sleep in 😉 and after packing up a (giant) picnic lunch and getting ready we didn’t leave till 11am. But really, we had nowhere to be at a specific time, kids can nap in the car. So it was nice to be on our own time.
We took the scenic drive out (1A Highway), which took much longer, in fact way longer than we expected but it was definitely worth the drive. It definitely looks like fall with the trees turning yellow. We were hoping to maybe catch some bears but alas it was just deer and mountain goat, which really never gets old for me so I think its exciting!
We stopped at the Lake Louise ski hill first. Mostly because we all really had to eat but also I think Joe is feeling nostalgic of his snowboarding days. It is pretty cool to see the hill with absolutely no snow, hard to think it gets completely covered. In fact 2 days later it had a 30cm blanket of snow!
Next we went to Lake Louise itself. Which is a stunning place! Unfortunately it gets very touristy on the weekend so your fighting for space to get that perfect shot of Lake Louise. But, because it is so stunning, any photo you do get almost always looks so picturesque. After looking at the lake we went for a wonder through the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. I always enjoy walking through. It’s not quite as beautiful as the Fairmont Banff Chateau but it definitely has it’s own charm. Joe and I actually stayed there on my 25th birthday. An amazing gift from my family! That was such a lovely weekend. Our room was gorgeous with a view of Lake Louise, we ate at one of the restaurants in the hotel, Walliser Stube. Admittedly it was the only restaruant that had a reservation available that night but it was actually very nice! The website classifies it as a European Alpine cuisine. Sadly those days are behind us, for now anyway. However I would love love love to stay in the Banff Fairmont next…hint hint…Just incase anyone from my family is reading 😉
Back to Lake Louise Fairmont, surprisingly there is still quite a bit of access to non staying visitors so we walked around looking at the pictures they have all over the hotel and looking at the views from the many different windows. Noah was able to run around and burn off some steam before getting the kids back in the car for the ride home. We actually went the quick way home and Noah slept the whole way, while Siena cried the second half of it. One out of two ain’t so bad.
