For years now I have enjoyed using natural skin care products. I would be lying if I said that natural is all I use, but I would say that natural skin care takes up a predominant amount of space in my bathroom draw. As they say, your skin is your largest organ so you should be kind to it and use good things on it. Fun fact: over 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into it, some of those chemicals can be stored in the body from weeks up to years before they are eliminated! And not only are we effected but our earth is too. All those chemicals end up in our water ways and soil, which can create further impact.
When I was pregnant all I would use is natural. I was very strict with it too. Coconut took a front row seat in my skin care regimen. For make up remover, full body lotion, including my face, hair treatment, scrubs etc. I tried to use Burt’s bees shampoo but unfortunately I just couldn’t stomach the smell. Even to this day it makes me feel nauseous. #pregnancy.
I have a lot of staple natural skin care products that I continue to repurchase. Deodorant is one of them. It may not always be the same brand but I certainly always go for a natural one. I only like to use natural deodorant because the regular big name brand ones are full of chemicals that can be harmful to you. It’s a scary thought putting such things so close to your lymph nodes.
I often get asked what I use by friends and family and right now I am loving quite a few things so it was a must to share here:
Natural Skincare Products I am loving
Deodorant – Schmidts Lavender Sage – This stuff smells sooooo good! It’s different in that in comes with a little spatula that you scoop some product up and rub between your finger tips to warm up and soften and then you put under your armpits. At first I didn’t think I would like that step but I really wanted to try it. I am glad I did. I don’t mind it at all! It’s also available in a stick form though. I am not a huge sweater and I work out 5-6 days a week doing high intensity and I don’t feel heaps sweaty or have BO so for that I give it 5/5.
Teeth Whitening – Organika Activated Charcoal – This is a cheaper version of another one that’s making its way around social media and does the same thing because its literally the same ingredient! I really like it and find that it does make my teeth look whiter. It’s tasteless too. It can be a little messy but it’s a lot less painful and expensive and time-consuming than going to the dentist. Which I did many years ago. At the very least I think it’s worth a try!
Essential Oils Roller – Saje Moon Cycle – I have many of these rollers for all sorts of things and I absolutely love them! This particular one is meant for that time of the month. By helping relieve cramping and mood changes. I honestly just love the smell. I have only been using it for just over a month so no real changes but the girl at saje told me if you use it daily that’s when you get better benefits. So ill keep you posted.
Face Serum/Oil – Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum – First off, I love the name of this company, second, I love that it has active ingredients in it. Basically, it’s skin food. Even their facility in Oregon is environmentally friendly. The product itself has made my skin smoother and brighter. I use it in addition with the Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil which I absolutely LOVE. It’s so perfect to use here in Alberta because the climate is so dry. Even in summer. It’s going to be a staple for sure this winter. My skin feels so moisturized, never oily or weighted down from product. It feels like a really clean nourishing oil.
Body Exfoliator – Body Shop Body Brush – This brush is great. I use it for dry brushing, which has some great benefits likes draining the lymph nodes, sheds dead skin cells which encourages cell renewal and assists with circulation. Unless I make my own scrub I never use store-bought exfoliation anymore because there really is no need.
Foot Lotion – Moon Valley Organics Peppermint Foot Rub – I recently received this in my Woman up box. Foot moisturizer isn’t something I normally buy but it’s a nice step when I am painting my toes. Truth be told, I hate feet and I have a REALLY hard time rubbing it into my own feet! But my feet do feel nice and soft when I put on with socks. I think I will be using this a lot in winter. Somehow *shudders touching feet*
